PORTLAND, MI (AP) The regular season concluded with Steven Nicolet having one the greatest regular seasons ever. He compiled a 189-65 picking record (.744) and a 13-3 head-to-head record. It looked like he was the picker to beat. But there was nothing Nicolet could do to stop the Football Gods and the destiny of Gary Bonn. Gary actually won the play-off championship back in 1998 before there was a PYX Bowl, but he wanted nothing more than to hold that PYX Bowl Trophy in his hands. Bonn came close in 2002, when he met a lower seeded Nicolet in the Championship game. Nicolet got the best of him that time and went on to win PYX Bowl III (Against Brent Van Wieren). It was a stunning upset that ended in a wild finish. That was something Bonn could never forget. He felt that PYX Bowl III should have been his. This year Gary was more determined than ever to win the PYX Bowl, and he wanted nothing more than to meet Nicolet in the play-offs again. Gary got just what he wished for. He met Nicolet in the second round Divisional game and many experts were predicting history to repeat itself. Bonn got the revenge he wanted and the game was no match right from the kick-off. It can only be described as total domination by Gary Bonn. In the Championship game, Gary met the Champion of the Metro Brotherhood, Jeff Nichols. Nichols also compiled an outstanding 13-3 record and was seen as the favorite between these two titans. But seeing how Bonn easily dismantled the high powered offense of Nicolet, sent a message that this was going to be a battle. After an unusual amount of Trash Talking, the game finally got underway. And unfortunately for Nichols, he ran into a buzz saw. Just before the game, word leaked out that Nichols actually attended Hamilton High School back in 1982. This news became locker room bulletin board material for Bonn. The game was pretty much over by half-time. This set up the PYX Bowl VII match with Brent Van Wieren which Bonn felt should have happened four years ago. Van Wieren was no push over; in fact he looked even stronger than he did 4 years ago when he lost PYX Bowl III. In 2005, Brent compiled an impressive 12-4 regular season record and grabbed the top seed in the National Picking Conference (NPC). Once again Bonn saw the experts place him as the underdog in this colossal match-up. Gary played a tough schedule and wound up with a 10-6 record (167-89 picking record) which was good enough to win his division. At this point, Gary started to get a sense of destiny. After defeating Nicolet in his best season ever, wiping out Nichols, crushing Hamilton and the Metro Brotherhood and playing in his first PYX Bowl against the final opponent from the mighty Hamilton federation, Gary knew that the Football Gods were favoring him on this crisp Sunday evening. Gary knew that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were also playing the Super Bowl at the same time. Gary could relate to his good friend Bill Cower who seems to always come up short of a Championship. But this year felt different---oh so different. Gary pounded Van Wieren up and down the field. Brent was determined not to give up and fought a valiant fight. A few calls did seem to go Gary's way, in the end it was clear to the whole world that this was indeed Gary's destiny. There was no force in the universe that could stop him from claiming PYX Bowl VII. CONGRATULATIONS to Gary Bonn and his Pittsburgh Steelers!!
