The End
of the 2004 Regular Season
BRIGHTON, MI (AP) The
regular season has concluded. Who is in? Who is out?
As decided by vote back in August, the majority of pickers wanted to
move closer to the NFL format. Last season we used the combined
standings to qualify play-off berths. This season we created
divisions based on last years' results and moved the Division Standings
to the forefront. With Division standings being the measurement,
we were now able to make the PYX play-offs resemble the actual NFL.
The result is that only 12 pickers qualify as opposed to the previous
16. We now have wildcards and we now will use the re-seeding
method during the play-offs.
Already we have heard complaints from the Metro
Brotherhood and from other pickers such as Malea, Paul, Roy, Jamie, Joel, Steven,
Kyle Chauv and others. Many feel that we should qualify more teams into the
post season. A proposal is being drafted and will be voted on at
the conclusion of the PYX Bowl. In the mean time, we must move
forward with the business of picking. We must follow the will of
the people.

APC |
East:
Rene Garza
wins his division and enters the payoffs as the defending PYX
Bowl Champion. Can he win it Back-To-Back? Garza
represents the Hamilton Federation.
|
North:
Just like the Pittsburgh Steelers,
Gary Bonn
wins another division title. The most interesting item
here is the play-off seeding. Head-to-Head, Gary defeated
Garza in week 14. But between Bonn, Zysk & Zink, it's all
even in their round robin...each one defeating the other. Zink
and Zysk never played Garza and Zysk defeated Zink in week 16.
The next tie-breaker is the divisional record. Here are
the divisional records of each division winner:
Gary Bonn = 6-0
Don Zysk = 5-1
Rene Garza = 4-2
Jay Zink = 2-4
Gary Bonn is
#1 seed followed by #2-Zysk, #3-Garza and #4-Zink.
Gary is a
loyal member of the Holy Chapter of Garyism. A follower of
Garyism has qualified for the play-offs every year since the
beginning of time.
|
South:
Don Zysk
captures the division title even though he has an identical
record as Dennis
Harmor, and is a
member of Grand Valley Print Shop. Zysk
defeated Harmor in the two head-to-head meetings (week 3 and
week 11). Harmor still qualifies as the wildcard.
Al Nowak
also qualifies as the other wildcard team because he defeated
Kyle Chauv in their only meeting in week 8. Three teams
qualify from the same division.
|
West:
Jay Zink
wins the West Division title and is also member of Grand Valley
Print Shop. Kyle Chauv fought a tough battle and made it
very close but missed out of the playoffs by a tie-breaking rule
with Nowak. The Grand Valley Print Shop qualifies 2
divisional champions this year. The GVSU Print Shop has
sent pickers into the play-offs each and every year since the
PYX Bowl began.

NPC |
East:
Kevin
Rosenau
easily wins his division. He represents the Metro
Brotherhood. The Metro Brotherhood sends two pickers into
the play-offs this year. The Metro group has now had
representation in the play-offs in 3 out 5 PYX Bowl seasons.
|
North:
Malea Nicolet
wins the division and becomes the top female picker for the 6th
year in a row. That may be a record that never gets
broken.
|
South:
Nate Lucas
wins his division by a three game margin. Does this mean
that he will return to the PYX Bowl two years in a row?? Nate
narrowly lost to Garza in PYX Bowl V.
|
West:
Steven Nicolet
wins the competitive West Division. This division sends
three pickers into the playoffs as
Jeff Nichols
and Kevin Sandoval
will continue their season as the two NPC wildcard qualifiers.
Sandoval actually won both regular season meetings, making him
the higher seed. On another note, the Hamilton Federation
has qualified at least 3 pickers into the play-offs every year
since the PYX Bowl began...until this year. Only two
Hamiltonians are in the play-offs, definitely a down year.

In other news:
Brent Van Wieren compiled a 12-4 record this week.
He is officially awarded the Picker of the Week.
This marks the first time that someone has won this award 4 times in a
single season.
