TADROS IS ELECTED COMMISSIONER
The General Election: Peter Tadros defeated incumbent Kevin Haranczak in the closest PYX Commissioner election in history. Tadros received 47% of the popular votes (15 votes), while Haranczak brought in 38% (12 votes). Political analysts believe that the third party voting cost Haranczak the Commissionership. Steven Nicolet received 6%, Jeff Nichols and Steve Harryman each received 3% and one vote was cast for "Elmo". If the third party voting had voted for Haranczak, he would have been re-elected. The Proposals on the ballot went this way: Proposal A: "The Current Play-Off System". This proposal passes with an overwhelming 75% of the votes. We used this system last year and everyone seems to like it. Proposal B: "Regular Season Format". This proposal is a tie. It's split right down the middle 16 to 16. This reflects that there are many people in this picking nation who are not happy with the current regular season picking system. Regardless of what the media says, there are 50% of the PYX country out there who are loyal to the league, love picking, believe in the constitution, but are simply unhappy with current policies. These pickers are satisfied with the head-to-head playoffs but want to be rewarded for straight picking percentage. They are fighting for a more fair playing field. We will have to debate this further and put it up to another vote at the end of the season. Proposal C: "The Peek-A-Boo Rule". This proposal was shot down by 69% of the population. It appears that the majority of the pickers place a high value on their privacy. They do not want other pickers to view their picks before the opponent makes their own picks. In the past, certain pickers could view other people's picks, while another group was not able to do the same. This inequality needs to be addressed by the incoming Administration. Proposal D: "The Tie-breaker Amendment". This proposal was defeated by the narrowest of margins. 53% voted no and 47% voted yes (17 to 15). Experts believe that the reason this proposal did not go through was because of the logistics of having the Administration monitor the entries as they are submitted and then contacting the pickers before kick-off of the games. It is also interesting to see how close this proposal correlates to Proposal C. If "C" would have passed, then there would be no reason to implement Proposal D. Proposal E: "Term Limits". This proposal, just like Proposal B, ended in a tie. 50% voted yes and the other 50% voted no. Many pickers expressed the fact that this was actually 4 proposals wrapped into one. While some agreed that the Commissioner election should take place every 4 years, they disagreed with the limitation of the Commissioner being able to run for a second term. Some believed that the Commissioner could run again after sitting out a term but then disagreed with the amount of time one has to be a member to run for office. Once again we will have to debate this further and put it up to another vote at the end of the season. The bottom line: What is clear is that this league is very much divided. This picking nation painfully disagrees on many issues. It will take a long time for any healing to take place. Commissioner Tadros inherits a league that is torn along political lines. Half of the PYX value more security with their picks. While the other half place more value on personal rights and freedom to view their opponents picks. For one side, this election was about the picking system and about pushing for more powerful and better picks. The other side felt more strongly about equal rights for all pickers. No one wants to see a civil war among our fellow pickers. And certainly no one wants to see half of the PYX break away and form some sort of alternative picking league in Canada. The new Commissioner will have the daunting task of directing this league on to a clear path that finds balance between competition and comradery....between aggressive picking and helping a fellow picker....between individualism and working together for the greater good....between uniting and dividing. Good luck Mr. Tadros, we do not envy you in this dark age of the PYX. In other news: Peter Tadros, Kevin Sandoval, Todd Prins, Joel Dalman & Dennis Harmor all receive the PICKER OF THE WEEK award. This is the first time that we have a five-way tie. 9-5 is the best anyone can do this week. This is the worst record for this award...ever! Good job guys. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
