The
first three weeks are in the books and not with out a little PYX
controversy. We posted the 2009 schedule prior to the
start of the season, but then realized that we posted the wrong
match-ups. We discovered this error AFTER week 1.
The executive board decided to replace the old schedule with a
new correct schedule but we left week 1 the way it was. So
the Week 2 through Week 17 schedule is complete and accurate.
It was all handled behind the scenes. I must give a
special "Thank You" to Vice President Kurt Hazlewood for all of
his hard work compiling the weekly updates and keeping the
league scheduling and standings running smoothly.
WEEK 1 Recap: We
welcome two new expansion teams into the PYX this season, Josh
Sova and Trevor Maus. Josh Sova did the unthinkable and
became the first expansion picker to capture the Picker of
the Week award in his very first week of picking. Josh
went 15-1...nearly perfect. Trevor Maus wasn't too far
behind with a stellar 14-2 record. The expansion teams are
very very strong this season.
WEEK 2 Recap: The match-up of
the week had to be the PYX Bowl rematch between Linda Dalman and
Rachelle Sova. How did they look this season? Will
there be a drop off from the previous championship year?
Linda got the best of Sova once again, going 10-6 versus
Rachelle's 6-10 record. Does Linda have her number?
The Picker of the Week award went to the
Holland team of Kyle Chauv and Thomas Van Dyke. Both
pickers compiled a 14-2 record and crushed their opponents.
WEEK 3 Recap: There were a few
really good match-ups this past week. We saw a great
battle between Gary Bonn and Gene Koon of the APC North
division. Both pickers were undefeated and this was a
crucial divisional game. Gary Bonn, the perennial power
defeated Koon once again to stay undefeated and in first place
in the division.
But the best match-up of the week had to be
between Jay Zink and Kevin Rosenau. Rarely do we see two
pickers who receive the Picker of the Week award in the same
week, go head-to-head at the same time. These warriors
battled to a 14-2 record. I said BOTH. They tied.
And in the tie-breaker, they both picked 42 points. A
natural tie and Pickers of the week at the same time.
Amazing!
October: Now we head into
October. The season starts to change, the wind blows a
little bit more and temperature drops. But for certain
pickers, the temperature is climbing! Here are our
undefeated first place pickers: Gary Bonn, Al Nowak, Jeff
Nichols, Brent Van Wieren, Trevor Maus and Kevin Sandoval.
Will Sandoval and Maus still be undefeated when they collide in
week 6? Who knows...only time will tell.
NOTES: We created a Facebook
page for the PYX...you simply have to type in The PYX in your
Facebook search box. We also have our PYX Forum which is
open to any trash talking.
Please let the Commissioner's Office know
if you would like to be a guest writer for the "Corner" this
season. We are always on the look-out for different perspectives.
Thank you, and good luck in Week 4.
