Monday, January 5, 2009 Gary L. Bonn Home-Field Advantage...NOT!
APC Gene Koon @ Steven Nicolet This was the upset of upsets. Gene Koon barely made it into the playoffs, and was taking on the most accurate picker in the history of the PYX in Steven Nicolet. After hours of strategy between these two, they had one pick that went in different directions. Steven took the favored Indianapolis Colts, while Gene took the home field underdogs San Diego Chargers. It was an exciting game that came down to overtime. Gene Koon scored the touchdown on a run over the left end, and claims a first round victory. For his win, Gene gets to play the number one seed Brian Klingenberg in round 2. Gene enters this one the underdog. Some how, Brian finds a way to win, and is heavily favored in this contest. Rachelle Sova @ Kevin Rosenau These two disagreed on one game, Rachelle taking Baltimore, Kevin staying home with the Dolphins. Chad Pennington seemed to have a pension for throwing to the Ravens on this day. Turn-overs are key, and these propelled Rachelle to a first round victory over Kevin. Congratulations Rachelle!! Great season Kevin, look forward to you defending your division in the fall. Rachelle will play Gary Bonn for the third time this season in round 2. Gary the best of Rachelle the first two times, will the third time be the charm?
NPC Kyle Chauv @ Dennis Harmor These two come from very different ideological picking backgrounds. This matchup saw three of the four games be different. Kyle picked Arizona, San Diego, and Baltimore. Dennis picked Atlanta, Indy, and Miami. Kyle completely dominated this matchup, and moves on the round 2. Congratulations Kyle on a strong win. Kyle will be matched up again Mike Colliau once again. If you recall, Kyle defeated Mike in the final week of the season to make the playoffs. Mike has home field advantage over Kyle, and is favored to win. Can Kyle pull off another upset? Linda Dalman @ Jeff Nichols This was the third contest this week that saw only one disagreement in PYX. Linda took Arizona, and Jeff went with Atlanta. With this, Linda defeats Jeff on his home turf, and advances to round 2. Is Linda back on track? She won in the final week of the PYX, and looked impressive this week. In round 2, Linda will be taking on Kevin Sandoval. This is a matchup of two power pickers who tend to dominate their opponents. Something has got to give. It should be interesting to watch.
WILDCARD SUMMARY: ALL of the away teams won this week. You battle all season long for the coveted home-filed advantage and it just didn't matter. The away teams stepped up to the plate and were the victors.
Here are the matchups this week: APC (6) Gene Koon @ (1) Brian Klingenberg (5) Rachelle Sova @ (2) Gary Bonn NPC (6) Kyle Chauv @ (1) Mike Colliau (5) Linda Dalman @ (2) Kevin Sandoval
Last week saw the number 3 & 4 seeds get eliminated in both conferences. Confidence points were not needed last week as all matchups had an odd number of discrepancies in their PYX. We'll see if they are needed in this round. This playoff season is all about divisional dominance. 3 of the 4 remaining in the APC are from the North Division. Likewise, in the NPC, 3 of the 4 remaining are from the South Division. It is up to Brian Klingenberg and Kevin Sandoval to put a stop to this dominance. Speaking of such, Hamiltonians are alive and well. Linda Dalman and Brian Klingenberg are trying to bring a PYX Bowl back to that faction. They face some stiff competition! We started with 12, now we are down to 8. Good luck to those remaining as we dwindle down to four. Be sure to get your PYX in before games kickoff on Saturday.
Sincerely, Gary Bonn, Executive Vice President of The PYX
