Zeke Chapman Captures Basketball Title

Chapman Defeats Bickford for National Championship

SAN ANTONIO (AP)—Bryan Bickford kept missing. Zeke Chapman wasn’t about to.

Chapmans’ 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in regulation put the game in overtime, and Zeke pulled away to a 75-68 victory on Monday night for the first national championship in the Chapman family history.

“It’ll probably be the biggest shot ever made in PYX history,” Zeke said after the game.

The ending made a mockery of Bickford’s theory that Memphis, one of the country’s worst free-throw shooting teams, didn’t have to be good at the foul line because they would always come through when the stakes were highest.

“It will hit me like a ton of bricks tomorrow, that I had it in my grasp,” Bickford said.

Zeke now joins long-time friend, Dave Hosfelt (1999 Basketball Champion) in the PYX Basketball record books.

Another item to point out is the overall record for "Best Bracket".  We are currently in our 10th season of making March Madness picks and the record for most points was set last year by Tiffany Bowser.  She scored 116 points on 50 correct picks.  Zeke shatters her record by scoring 120 points and correctly picking 51 out of 63 games (.810 picking percentage).  No one has ever picked over 80% in the March Madness brackets.

Here are the FINAL STANDINGS.

Zeke Chapman, Tiffany Bowser and Dave Hosfelt all former members of Phonathon, combined hold three National Championships.  The Phonathon now passes the Metro Brotherhood and the Hamilton Federation in total basketball championships.

Congratulations to Bryan Bickford for coming in second place.  He picked a great tournament and nearly won this thing.  Congratulations to the pickers who actually picked the correct winning team (Kansas):  Zeke Chapman and Mike Colliau of the Metro Brotherhood.  Congratulations to Zeke Chapman for getting 51 correct picks.  Congratulations to Kurt Hazlewood for being the only picker to correctly pick the final score (143 points).

And most importantly, congratulations to ZEKE CHAPMAN: The 2008 PYX Basketball Champion!!
