Week 5 Report

Greetings my fellow prisoners...er,um...I mean fellow pickers.  Welcome to the Week 5 Report.  I hope you enjoyed the week 3 guest columnist, Rachelle Sova.  It was refreshing to hear a new voice in the "Corner".  We will have guest writers periodically throughout the rest of the season.  In fact, next week we have __________________ lined up to write the Week 6 report.  We'll just leave it a secret for now and surprise everyone next week.

This week's Picker of the Week is Joe Thome.  Ironically, the last time that Joe was the P.O.W. was the exact same day a year ago--Week 5 of 2007.  To show just how difficult Week 5 was, Joe wins this award by posting a 10-4 record (lowest picking percentage for P.O.W. so far this year).  Amazingly, Thome also gets the "Loner of the Week" as well by being the only picker to pick the Minnesota Vikings over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.  Congratulations Joe.

I must mention that Steve Harryman also grabbed a loner by predicting Miami over San Diego.  Nice pick...or was it a bone head pick that just happened to work out this time?  Paul Landry could have been the Co-Picker of the Week, because he also went 10-4, but unfortunately he was not eligible because he had a "Bye" this week.

There were three overtime games this week:

Week 5 Overtime Games
Rene Garza at Dennis Harmor (52 to 39) 7-7
Joel Dalman at Brian Klingenberg (44 to 52) 8-6
Kyle Chauv at Brent Van Wieren (38 to 40) 7-7

Monday Night Football

Minnesota 30
New Orleans 27
_________________________
Tie-breaker total = 57 points

Rene Garza remains undefeated by defeating a pesky Dennis Harmor.  In overtime, Garza ran away with it as the Monday night football game once again went over 50 points.  Then there was Brian Klingenberg also undefeated and for the third time this year, he wins an overtime match.  This time he edged out fellow Hamiltonian, Joel Dalman, by picking the exact same point total as Garza.  On the opposite end of the spectrum, we had Brent Van Wieren who was winless.  Brent snatches that first victory of the season by defeating Kyle Chauv by 2 overtime points.  Kyle is off to a shaky start this season.

The three undefeated pickers remain undefeated:  Brian Klingenberg, Rene Garza (both 5-0) and Linda Dalman who is 4-0.  Those three lead their divisions along with: Kevin Rosenau, Joe Thome, Jeff Nichols and Kevin Sandoval.  There is a three way tie between Rachelle Sova, Gary Bonn and Gene Koon in the APC North division.  Who will come out on top in this heated threesome?

There were a few pickers who failed to submit picks this week.  When that happens, their opponents get the easy victory.  Make sure to get your picks in early.

Next week there will be a few games to keep a close eye on:  Division leaders, Rosenau vs. Koon, Linda Dalman vs. Thomas Van Dyke both with stellar records...and The Annual Classic, Paul Landry vs. Al Nowak, one of the biggest rivalries in all of The PYX.  Stay tuned.

The standings are now updated and posted.  You can take a look at the final scores between you and your opponent in the Schedule.  Also, you can click on the NFL link to see the final scores of the games already completed:  NFL .

The PYX front office would like to send very happy birthday wishes to pickers, Kyle Chauv and Paul Landry!

Thank you, and good luck in Week 6.
