Executive Vice President
of The PYX
Grand Rapids, Michigan

A Message from Our Executive Vice President

With just two weeks left to go in the regular season, the playoff picture is still complex and very competitive.  Let's take a look at how it is shaping up:

APC NORTH

Arguably, this is the toughest division in the PYX this season.  It has the potential to send three of it's 4 franchises to the playoffs this year.  With that being said, three of those franchises lost this week.  Gary Bonn's streak of 10 straight wins (he hadn't lost since week 4) came to a halt as he lost in O.T. to Kevin Rosenau. With Rachelle and Gene losing as well, the overall playoff picture stays tight.  Rachelle controls her own destiny, while Gene Koon needs a Nowak or Rosenau loss over the next two weeks, and he also needs to win out.

APC SOUTH

Steven Nicolet has this division sewn up.  Nicolet still has a shot at a number one seed in the playoffs.  Can he pull this off?  He's the most accurate picker of all time.  He knows how to win!!  Don't count him out!

APC WEST
Like Nicolet, Klingenberg has this division wrapped up.  And like Nicolet and Bonn, Klingenberg is battling for a number one seed in the playoffs.  Klingenberg currently has the best record in the PYX after yet another thrilling overtime victory this week.

APC EAST
This division is as competitive as it gets right now.  Nowak and Rosenau have been in a dog fight most of the season.  The winner of this battle will get a playoff spot.  Both Rosenau and Nowak won this week.  Rosenau continues to hold a one game advantage over Nowak.   Nowak holds a half game lead over Gene Koon for the final wildcard spot.  The division title is huge in this rivalry as a wildcard slot is not guaranteed!

NPC NORTH

Kevin Sandoval has officially clinched the division title.  Congratulations Kevin!  If you win next week, you are guaranteed a first round bye.  He is also in the hunt for a number one seed.  Todd Prins had a tough loss, and now his playoff hopes are hanging by a very thin thread.  He and Cushman have a slim shot at the playoffs, but will probably have to rub up against a leprechaun to make it happen.  Cushman will have to be careful doing so, he has done time for this already!

NPC SOUTH

Like the APC East, this is a hotly contested division as well.  Colliau has been slow and steady all season, and has passed the hot picking styles of Linda Dalman.  In a huge loss this week, and a huge win by Colliau, Mike has taken a one game lead over Linda.  Since Sandoval lost this week, Colliau now is in the lead for the number one seed, and is guaranteed a first round bye in the playoffs if he can hang on and win the division.

NPC EAST

Was anyone wondering if anyone was going to step up and claim this division?  Both Nichols and Landry got huge wins this week.  Jeff leads Landry by just a half game.  Its important to win this division as it is possible the loser may not make the wildcard!!  Good luck men!

NPC WEST

And here is yet another division that is likely to come down to the final week.  Garza got back on track this week with a win over Linda Dalman.  Tom Van Dyke had a heartbreaking loss to Mike Colliau!  Dennis Harmor, who has been red-hot lately, lost badly to Al Bonn.  What does all this mean?  Dennis and Rene' hold the division lead at 8-6, while Tom is just a game back at 7-7.  Again, it is important to win the division, as the other two may not make the playoffs.  At best, only one of them has a shot, if he can edge out Nichols or Landry for a wildcard.

In short, if the playoffs started today, here's who would be in and the seedings:

APC
1.  Brian Klingenberg
2.  Gary Bonn (Gary holds the tie-breaker over Steven by 1 game)
3.  Steven Nicolet
4.  Kevin Rosenau
5.  Rachelle Sova (wildcard)
6.  Al Nowak (wildcard)

NOTE:  Gene Koon is a half game back and in contention for the final wildcard slot.

NPC
1.  Mike Colliau
2.  Kevin Sandoval
3.  Jeff Nichols (Jeff holds a 2 game tie-breaker over Rene)
4.  Rene' Garza (Rene defeated Dennis in Week 5)
5.  Linda Dalman (wildcard)
6.  Dennis Harmor (wildcard - Dennis plays Rene' in Week 17)

NOTE:
Tom Van Dyke, Todd Prins, Paul Landry, Matt Cushman and Al Bonn all have outside shots of getting in.  Landry has the most likely shot.

Next week offers some more crucial matchups!  A few of these include:

Brian Klingenberg @ Kevin Sandoval

In a battle of the titans, both of these guys are trying to get a number one seeding in their conferences!  This one should be good!

Jeff Nichols @ Kevin Haranczak

One would think this one is about Jeff getting a huge win to hold on to his division title.  But this one is much more than that!  This one if for Paula's Panties!  Got get em' Jeff!

Rachelle Sova vs. Dennis Harmor

These two are very close in the records, and in every other way!  This one may either be the beginning of an ugly rivalry, or the end of something beautiful!  Both really need a win!

Good luck and good pickin'.

Sincerely,

Gary Bonn, Executive Vice President of The PYX
and Special Columnist for the "Corner"
